I have been influenced by the style and composition of Early Renaissance Art (1300-1450). The sisters, Mary and Martha, feature in the Bible. Martha is dutiful while Mary is devotional. In their sisterly relationship, Mary and Martha experienced misunderstandings, tension, and rivalry. Sadly, today women have similar experiences in their friendships.

There are gardens of hope in our desert spaces.

Birds can fly away whenever they wish!

I have fond memories of my grandmother, who enjoyed sponge cake and tea with her neighbours. She delighted in hats, flowers, gloves, stylish purses, and other feminine trinkets. In painting Ode to Mama, I have sought to honour her and romanticize her era.

Miss Pink is a fun fantasy character, who loves her pooch and carries him wherever she goes. She laughs at rain and dances in the sunshine. She frequently visits cafes with all her friends....and of course her little pooch.

Hanging Rock pounds out stories in all weathers. With lightning, stories flash with vibrant electrical energy, while in droughts, stories speak in cracked parched tones.
River Pebbles captures the essence of enlivening experiences by the riverside, watching the waters gliding and flowing over pebbles. The drifting flowers allude to floating happiness and carefree times.

One perfect day on an Australian beach is where I want to be." — Paul Warren (from "Australia – On The Beach")
"My beach is a poem: water like sparking jewels / spilling from / a sandy treasure chest." — Sally Murphy (from "Poetry Friday: My Beach is a Poem")
“I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains
Of ragged mountain ranges
Of droughts and flooding rains.”
(From ‘My Country’ by Dorothea MacKellar 1885-1968)
“Our farm is in the patched blue overlap
between Queensland rain and Victorian rain
and of two-faced droughts like a dustbowl tap.”
(From ‘Two Rains’ by Les Murray)

Calming Arts had the pleasure of exhibiting various works in a number of VAS Exhibitions in 2025:

'My Parents' is the Portrait I chose to exhibit, receiving the Curator's Choice Award.
